Privacy Policy

LimsRat ("we," "us") is a local-first sample-tracking tool. This policy explains what limited information we collect through this website and the app, and — just as importantly — what we deliberately never see.

The short version

• The app has no account or login, so we don't collect a username, password, or profile.
• Your sample records live in your browser's local storage and, if you choose, a folder on your own disk. They are never uploaded to a server we operate.
• Device sync is peer-to-peer. Our relay server only ever sees the connection handshake between two of your own devices — never your sample data.
• We don't run analytics or advertising trackers on this website.
• If you buy Lab Sync, your payment is handled entirely by our payment processor — we never see or store your card details.

Information the app collects

None of your lab data — sample records, tags, notes, workflow stages, audit history — is sent to or stored on any server we operate. It lives in your browser's IndexedDB storage and, optionally, plain JSON files in a folder on your own device that you explicitly choose to connect.

The only thing you're asked for inside the app is a name, which is recorded locally against changes you make so your own audit trail stays meaningful. That name is never transmitted anywhere by us.

Peer-to-peer sync

Syncing between your own devices uses WebRTC, a peer-to-peer connection standard. To help two devices find each other, a small signaling relay we operate brokers the initial handshake (technical connection-setup messages only). By design, the relay never reads or stores the content of what it relays — it cannot see sample data, and none of your lab data passes through it. Once connected, your devices talk directly to each other, encrypted in transit.

Website data

This website (limsrat.com) does not run analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking scripts. The only cookie it sets is a small preference cookie remembering whether you last viewed the site in light or dark mode — it identifies no one and is not used for tracking.

If you email us at support@limsrat.com, we keep that correspondence to respond to you and for our own records.

Payment information (Lab Sync)

Lab Sync purchases are processed by Lemon Squeezy, acting as merchant of record. Lemon Squeezy collects and stores your payment details, billing name, and email directly — we never receive or store your card number. What we do receive is confirmation that a purchase was made, which we use to issue a license key tied to a device fingerprint. Data retention and control

Because your lab data lives on your own devices, you control its retention entirely — deleting it from your browser or disk removes it completely, with nothing left on our end to delete. Your device's paired-device list and license status are similarly stored locally, not on a server.

Children's privacy

LimsRat is a professional tool for laboratories and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes — for example, if a future feature introduces a new data flow — we'll update this page and adjust the "Last updated" date above. We won't retroactively expand what we collect without saying so here first.
